Martin L. Sawin, 79, Mapleton, Iowa, died Jan. 20 at a Mapleton nursing home. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24 at the United Christian Church at Oto. The Rev. Walter Enstrom will officiate. Burial will be in the Oto Cemetery under direction of the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton.

He was born Aug. 22, 1893, at Oto. He married Ollie Hale Dec. 24, 1919, at Onawa. They farmed in the area until retiring to Oto in 1964 and had been in California for several winters. Mrs. Sawin died in 1969.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ, had served on several church boards, and was a charter member of the Farm Bureau at Oto.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Jacobson of Mapleton, Mrs. Merle (Bonnie) Miller of Roseville, Calif.; and Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Slentz of Winnipeg, Canada; a son, Martin, of Roseville, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Leatha Burke of Sioux City and Miss Belva Sawin of Oto.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Oto United Church of Christ for Martin L. Sawin, 79, of Oto. The Rev. Walter Enstrom will officiate. Burial will be in the Oto Cemetery under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.

Mr. Sawin, a retired farmer and a resident of Oto all his life, died Saturday at a Mapleton nursing home.

He was born Aug. 22, 1893, at Oto. He married Ollie Hale Dec. 24, 1919, at Onawa, Iowa. They farmed in the Oto area until 1964 when they retired and moved into Oto. In recent years, he had spent several winters visiting his children in California. Mrs. Sawin died in 1969.

He was a member of the Oto Church of Christ and had served on several church boards. He was a charter member of the Farm Bureau at Oto.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Jacobson of Mapleton, Mrs. Merle (Bonnie) Miller of Roseville, Calif., and Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Slentz of Winnipeg, Canada; two sons, Oren and Martin, both of Roseville; a brother, Frank of California; two sisters, Mrs. Leatha Burke of Sioux City and Miss Belva Sawin of Oto; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services Held For Martin Lafayette Sawin

Martin Lafayette Sawin, son of Joseph Henry Sawin and Gertrude Bowen, was born August 22, 1893 at Oto, Iowa and died Saturday, January 20, 1973 at a Mapleton nursing home. He had reached the age of 79 years, 4 months and 28 days.

Mr. Sawin married Ollie Hale December 24, 1919 and
they had farmed in the Oto area until 1964 when they retired and moved to the town of Oto. Mrs. Sawin died in 1969. He was a member of the Oto Church of Christ and had served on several church boards and was also a charter member of the Farm Bureau at Oto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Jacobson of Mapleton, Mrs. Merle (Bonnie) Miller of Roseville, California and Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Slentz of Winnipeg, Canada; two sons, Oren and Martin, both of Roseville,
California; two sisters, Mrs. Leatha Burke of Sioux City and Miss Belva Sawin of Oto; one brother, Frank of California; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, 1973 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oto United Church of Christ. The Rev. Walter Enstrom officiated and
burial was in the Oto Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dale Timmerman, Robert Jacobson, Dale Jacobson, James Miller, Donald Larson and Aldre Scheer.
