Kenneth "Mike" Keating 1938 - 2023

Kenneth "Mike" Keating was born January 1, 1938, on a farm near Denison, Iowa, the third son of Leonard Sr. and Margaret (DeConnick) Keating. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He graduated from Charter Oak Public School in 1956. During high school, Mike worked for Keim Oil Co. in Charter Oak and drove truck for his dad. After graduation, Mike moved to Sac City and worked for Lytton Creamery as a driver and at Lubeck Oil Co.

In February 1959, Mike was united in marriage to Reta "Peaches" Fletcher at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak and was blessed with four children: Kim, Tammy, Todd, and Jodi. He drove truck for Keating Truck Line & Schleswig Transfer. He also farmed with the opening of Farmbest Pork Plant in Denison and became a foreman. He learned to smoke, cure and process bacon in Kentucky for them. He later returned to trucking for Gregerson in Ute. Mike started his own business, Keating Trucking & QLF, and also found time to farm. He loved farming, trucking, keeping busy, playing cards, telling jokes, and spending time with his family and friends.

Mike passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, attaining the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Melissa; sister, Carol Rosburg, brothers: Leonard Jr. and Jack; sister-in-law, Paulette Keating; nephew, Jason Jurgens; and partner, Pam Prell.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Kim (Mark) Wilken of Las Vegas, Tammy (James) Beam of Arion, Todd Keating of Arnolds Park, and Jodi Stormer of Grimes; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (James) Jurgens of Charter Oak; brother-in-law, Tony Mechura of Arlington, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Keating of Charter Oak; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak with a Rosary at 4:45 p.m. and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with burial to follow in Saint Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa.
