Harriet was born on January 4, 1928 to Clyde and Emma (Douglas) Rush on the family farm near Sloan, Iowa. After graduating from high school, she moved to Sioux City, Iowa. On August 1, 1951, Harriet married Verne “Bob” Johnson, whom she met when her sister, Elaine, married Bob’s brother, Charles. Harriet and Bob were married for 66 years until his death on October 10, 2017. They had three girls. While raising their family, they lived in Sioux City, Sibley, and Burlington, Iowa.

She and Bob always had a large garden, and kept busy freezing corn and canning tomatoes and beans. They were also very involved with activities at Faith Lutheran Church in Burlington, Iowa.

Following retirement, Harriet and Bob became full time RV-ers for 21 years traveling all parts of the United States. They especially enjoyed spending time with their families. The grandkids spent many a summer with them at Cutty’s in Okoboji and Des Moines, playing mini golf, Cutty’s Olympics, and swimming. They finally settled down in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2012. Harriet always enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends.
