Lois Ann Vanderbur 1942 - 2022

Lois Ann Vanderbur, 79, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Maple Heights Nursing Home, Mapleton, Iowa.

Per Lois’ wishes, she was cremated. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Lois Ann was born September 28, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Roy A. and Hazel M. (Lundquist) Palmquist. She graduated from Riverside-Brookfield in Riverside, Illinois with the class of 1960. After graduation, she furthered her education at Iowa State University where she met her life’s partner.

Lois and Gene were united into marriage December 31, 1963 at Austin Messiah Lutheran Church in Austin, Illinois. To this union four children were born, Krista, Kit, Kirk, and Lars. Lois was an awesome mother and homemaker. She loved spending time with all of her family.

Lois enjoyed making and sending greeting cards, cooking, reading, sewing, and keeping current with the news. She provided a great service to others including Maple Heights, her church, and many others in her community. Lois was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa where she was a past Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, and Secretary. Lois was a member of the P.E.O., Republican Women, and Women’s Fellowship. She was a proud MAGA Mama.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gene Vanderbur of Mapleton, Iowa; children, Krista (Toni) Elmquist of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Lars (Jennifer) Vanderbur of Papillion, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Adrienne (Dylan) Gill, Erika (Phil) McGrain, Mitchell Elmquist, Aidan Vanderbur, Madeline Vanderbur, Isabelle Vanderbur, and Lily Vanderbur; great-grandchildren, Adeline Gill, Crofton Gill, and baby girl McGrain due in November; one brother, Paul Palmquist; many close cousins including, Lester Palmquist and Alice Terlecky; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Hazel (Lundquist) Palmquist; and two children, Kit Louise Vanderbur (in infancy) and Kirk Charles Vanderbur.

Memorials in Lois’ memory may be directed to Fisher-Whiting Memorial Library, 609 Courtright Street, Mapleton, Iowa, 51034.
