David William was born June 26, 1950 on the family farm near Castana, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Alice (Rude) Gosch. He grew up and enjoyed all of the aspects of nature around him.

David was drafted into the United States Army in March of 1970. It was his senior year in high school so he obtained his GED at a later date. He served as a member of the 1st Calvary Air Division Association under Commanding Officer General Putnam. David was a Sniper, Point Man, and part of the Recon Platoon that served in Vietnam. David earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, W/60 DVC, Vietnam Service Medal, One Overseas Bar, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and was the Expert Rifle M-16. David was discharged in March 1971 with the rank of Spec. 4.

David was a confirmed member of the Soldier Lutheran Church. On March 6, 1970, he was united into marriage to Linda Nepper at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa. After his service with the United States Army, David and Linda raised three children, Shawntell, Shane, and Brandy in the Berne and Charter Oak, Iowa area. Shortly after Linda’s passing, David moved to an acreage west of Ute, Iowa.

David worked with his dad for a couple of years after he came home from Vietnam. After that he worked at Farmland in Denison, Iowa, Cedar Valley Construction, and Knife River Construction, retiring in 2018.

When David wasn’t working, he loved being outdoors. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. David also enjoyed riding horses, and riding his motorcycles. He was a “Notorious” daredevil and story teller. Most of his stories were true, just maybe a “Little Bit” exaggerated.

Survivors include his two daughters, Shawntell Hamman of Ute, Iowa, and Brandy Gosch of Rodney, Iowa; one son, Shane (Jolene) Gosch of Sioux City, Iowa; five grandchildren who he loved to spend time with, Ashlie, Maggie, Leslie, Gavin, and Rebekah; three sisters, Becky Marcum, Marla Bianchini, and Connie (Dave) Jansen; three sisters-in-law, Diane Gosch, Donna (Ray) Jacobs, and Linda Nepper; brother-in-law, Bob Mahlberg; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Gosch; his parents, Herbert and Alice (Rude) Gosch; mother-in-law, Evon Blakely; a brother, Leonard Gosch; three sisters, Wanita Myers, Sharon Mahlberg, and Karen Gosch; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Marcum, Lloyd Myers, Jr. Rick Bianchini, and Michael Nepper.
