Jerry W. Bellis, 79, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 2, 2022 at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa with Hospice Chaplain Dale Wolf, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Jerry’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with the Fireman Honor Guard and Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129, Onawa, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 with a 6:45 P.M. prayer service at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Jerry Wilmer was born February 25, 1943 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Robert and Etheleen (Meadows) Bellis. He grew up in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School. Jerry served in the United States Army from September 9, 1964 until his honorable discharge, August 18, 1966. During his military service he was stationed in Germany during Vietnam.

Jerry and Patsy Ann Bean were united into marriage June 4, 1967 at the First Christian Church in Onawa. He worked for Thelander Plumbing and then the City of Onawa for many years until his retirement. Jerry referred to himself as the “builder of eternal homes”, while working for the Onawa Cemetery.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their sporting events. He loved going to the schools and teaching the students about Fire Safety and “Stop”, “Drop”, and “Roll". Jerry gave lots of kids rides on the fire truck. He enjoyed taking his wife to the casino, his morning chat sessions with Scott and Bobby Low, looking up genealogy and family history, and tinkering in the garage.

Jerry was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa. He was a dedicated member of the Onawa Volunteer Fire Department, close to fifty years, where he served as the Assistant Fire Chief. Jerry was also a member of the David McNeill American Legion Post #129, and the Iowa Firefighter Association.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Patsy Bellis of Onawa, Iowa; children, Kim (Jeff) Gray of Winterset, Iowa, and Jeremy (Emily) Bellis of Onawa, Iowa; grandchildren, JJ (Kyndra Sorensen) Gray, Kelsey (Cody Stukenholtz) Gray, Kali Gray, Andelin Bellis, Laken Bellis, and Brynn Bellis; great-grandchildren, Callen Gray, Tryce Gray, Wesley Gray, and Kyra Stukenholtz; sister, Irene (Kenny) Mings; brother, Tony (Dixie) Bellis; sisters-in-law, Mary Bellis, Judy (Ed) Clift, Ruth (Roger) Meadows, and Neva Bean; brothers-in-law, Dale Bean, and Gary (Janie) Bean; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; along with many other family members and dear friends; and extended family, Jeff (Dawn) Sander and family, and Scott (Peggy) Low and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Etheleen (Meadows) Bellis; brother, Gary Bellis; parents-in-law, Clyde and Margaret Bean; brothers-in-law, Ralph Bean, and Robert Bean; and sister-in-law, Carol Bean.
