Louise Reed Barker, age 89, of Onawa, Iowa, (formerly of Castana, Iowa) passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with her grandson, Pastor Cody Deen and Pastor Stan Johnson, officiating. (Masks are optional). A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Louise’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Hope Evangelical Free Church, Onawa, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Louise Barker, the daughter of Louis and Esther (Cutter) Reed, was born September 5, 1932, at home in rural Ticonic, Iowa. She was baptized and member of the Ticonic Methodist Church. She attended Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Castana High School with the class of 1950.

On June 4, 1955, Louise married the love of her life Robert Barker, Sr. in the First Christian Church of Onawa. The couple settled on a family farm Northwest of Castana and welcomed their three children, Lynne Esther, Robert Lyle, and Sharon Louise.

Louise was a member of the Grimsley Thayer Unit #502 Castana American Legion Auxiliary for 55 years. She treasured spending time with her family, and attending the various activities of her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. Louise was a Minnesota Twins Fan and was known by many as “Grandma Barker”.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lynne (Rick) Deen of Whiting, Iowa, Robert (LaNelle) Barker, Jr. of Castana, Iowa, and Sharon (Rick) Gries of Castana, Iowa; grandchildren, Tammy Johnson, Clint (Maria) Hanson, Treasa Hanson, Cody Deen, Casey (Hope) Gries, and Curtis (Trisha) Gries; great- grandchildren, Wesley and Landon Hanson, Alicia Free, Zoe Johnson, Kaitlyn, Rebekah, and Christian Strobl, Jonathan, Eisley, Greyson, Bradyn, Brenden, and Logan Gries, and Aleena and Isaac Hanson; special family friend, Kristi Knoff; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Barker, Sr.; granddaughter, Shawnah Louise Gries; parents, Louis and Esther Reed; her brothers, Richard and Paul Reed; a sister-in-law, Bertha Reed; and several other family members and friends.
