Rodney Duane Jones, 63, of Whiting, Iowa passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, November 11, 2021 at his residence.

A public memorial visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service, with Evangelist Dale Wolf officiating. A private family service and burial will be held at a later date in the Onawa Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Rodney Duane was born October 19, 1958 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Everett Duane and Sherry Diane (Sparks) Jones. He grew up in Onawa and graduated from West Monona in 1976. He worked for several farmers in the Monona County area, his whole life. Rodney also went to Colorado for a few years to work on a horse ranch.

Rodney enjoyed showing calves in 4-H. He enjoyed going for drives in the hills looking for deer.

Survivors include his mother, Sherry (Sparks) Jones of Onawa, Iowa; sister, Rebecca “Becky” Jones of Whiting, Iowa; two aunts, Rose Quinlain of Sioux City, Iowa, and Pat Sparks Freemont of Decatur, Nebraska; three uncles, Dennis Sparks of Walthill, Nebraska, Donald Mustard of Onawa, Iowa, and Michael Compton of Decatur, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Jones; paternal grandparents, Mildred and George Jones; maternal grandparents, Nellie and Marvin Sparks; aunts, Mae Mustard, Myrtle Watson, Helen Corn, Jean Compton, and Deborah Sparks; uncles, Marion Jones, George, Jr. Jones, Eddie Jones, Donald Jones, Wayne Jones, Toby Sparks, Sergeant Major Guy W. Sparks, and Ronald Freemont; cousin, Chuck Sparks; and many other cousins and friends.
