MAPLETON, Iowa - Richard Dean "Dick" Lindblom, 57, of Mapleton died Saturday, Dec 1996, at his residence of cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Charles Adams officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Lindblom was born March 30, 1939, in Adair, Iowa, the son of Glen H. and Frieda M. (Wedemeyer) Lindblom. He attended the Anita, Iowa Public Schools graduating in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy, as a aviation machinist, from 1958 to 1962. He married Marilyn Smith on Sept. 3, 1960, , in Atlantic, Iowa. While in Atlantic, he worked for the Colonial Baking Company and later the Des Moines Register. In May 1965, the couple moved to Mapleton where he was employed with the Iowa State Patrol, serving 28 years until his retirement in February 1993. He was trained and served as a rifleman with the Iowa State Patrol and as a firearms instructor. He was most currently employed as a Deputy U.S. Marshal in federal court security in 1996.
He was a member of the St Matthew Lutheran Church, Iowa State Police Association, the Iowa State Troopers Association, the Iowa State Patrol 20 year Reunion Club, the Tri-State Peace Officers Association, and the National Troopers Coalition. He was a volunteer with the Mapleton Fire Department for 15 years. He enjoyed motorcycling and classic cars.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Therese Lindblom of Denver, Colo.; a son and his wife, Rod and Jean of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Matthew and Alex Lindblom; a brother and his wife, Steve and Liz of Anita, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Carol and Don Fejfar of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Dellene and Jack Wissler of Avoca, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
