ONAWA, Iowa
Vincent J. Montag, 72, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the church. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Montag was born May 25, 1924, in West Bend, Iowa, the son of, Joseph and Frances (Forgarty) Montag. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He attended Mechanic Trade School in Chicago. He married Irene Stanislav on May 25, 1954, at St Bernards Church in Blencoe, Iowa. He worked at farm and machanic jobs before entering the V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville and later the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, when he lived in West Bend.
Survivors include his wife of Onawa; a son and his wife, Daniel and Linda; a daughter, Celestina Montag; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Christine Montag, all of Sioux City; five brothers and their wives, Jim and Dorothy of Nora Springs, Iowa, Dr. Maurice and Gretchen of Woodbine, Iowa, Richard and Patty of Colo, Iowa, Emmet and Mary of Forest City, Iowa, and Jerry and Alberta of Rockford, Iowa; and three sisters, Helen Ladd of Gladwin, Mich., Mary Bea and her husband Joe Besch of Whittemore, Iowa, and Anna Zita and her husband Rex Brown of West Bend.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.
