Charles “Bud” W. Dose, age 90, passed away on January 14, 2021, surrounded by his family at his residence in Anthon, Iowa.

The son of William “Bill” and Rose (Brown) Dose, he was born on February 21, 1930, on a farm near Danbury, Iowa. Later in his childhood, his family relocated to a farm northwest of Mapleton, Iowa, where they continued to farm.

On February 8, 1953, Bud married his bride, Darlene Pautsch. They made their home on a farm by the railroad tracks near Mapleton and the couple were blessed with two sons Jeffrey and Randall. In 1960, the family relocated to a farm between Danbury and Anthon, Iowa, and the couple were blessed with two more sons Bradley and Brian, and a daughter Kimberly.

In 1988, Bud and Darlene retired from farming and moved into the town of Anthon. Bud kept busy with working road construction, helping with fall harvesting for the Welte’s, and seasonal work for Terragro.

Bud and Darlene looked forward to the excitement and activity their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought into their home. He also stayed active in the community playing cards and Bingo. Bud enjoyed gardening, watching his grandchildren’s events, family activities and was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Mapleton. He was an outdoorsman at heart and looked forward each year to a new season. Up until recently, Bud was still trapping turtle and beaver, chasing coyotes, and hunting deer. Bud always made time to swap a fishing or hunting story with anyone who had the time for a visit. Bud also enjoyed being the caretaker of the local squirrels, birds and rabbits in his neighborhood throughout the years.

Those thankful for sharing in Bud’s life include his wife Darlene Dose of Anthon, IA; sons Jeff Dose of Wakefield, NE, Randy Dose of Parker, CO, Brad (Dee) Dose of Anthon, IA, and Brian Dose of Le Sueur, MN; daughter Kim (Paul) Handke of Anthon, IA; 10 grandchildren: Rachel (Nathanael) Koch, Jared (Heather) Dose, Kayla (Cody) Amick, Janna (Derik) Simenson, Alyssa Halma, Briana (Jerry) Brandt, Brady Dose, RaeAnn Dose, Kolby (Caitlyn) Handke, and Brooke Handke; 8 great-grandchildren: Sam and Owen Koch, Caleb, Kora, and Cade Amick, Jade Simenson, Calvin Halma and Noah Brandt; brother Leo (Florice) Dose of Mapleton, IA; sister Pauline (Orville) Hummelgard of Battle Creek, IA; sister-in-law Julie Ann O’Neal of Kearney, MO; many nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends, along with a loyal cat.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents William “Bill” and Rose Dose; brother Norman Dose; four sisters-in-law, his brothers-in-law; and daughters-in-law Nancy Dose and Juanita Dose
