A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Castana Community Church, Castana, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs and Pastor Marsha Smith officiating. (Social distancing measures must be followed-Due to Covid- 19 restrictions- Masks are required.) Burial will be held at a later date in the Jordan Township Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 noon Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Donald “Jack” A. Parr, 77, of Castana, Iowa passed away December 19, 2020 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Donald Amos was born March 2, 1943 in Rodney, Iowa, the son of Charles Ross and Flossie Flora (McCall) Parr. Jack grew up near Castana, Iowa and attended Castana Community School. He obtained his GED.

Jack and Nora Jane (Norby) Parr were united in marriage on August 25, 1962 in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union three children were born, Kevin, Keith, and Kim.

Jack was a lifetime farmer and truck driver. He enjoyed raising, breaking, and riding horses. He also enjoyed wood working and working on tractors. He was a very kind, genuine, hardworking man.

He was a mayor of Castana, Iowa for two terms.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty eight years, Nora Jane (Norby) Parr; his children, Kevin (Pam) Parr of Moorhead, Iowa, Keith (Marlene) Parr of Castana, Iowa, and Kim (Shane) Bartlett of Fairfield, Texas; grandchildren, Nathan Parr, Amy and Alan Spencer, Kyle and Jeremy (Samantha) Parr, Daniel (Stephanie) Parr, and Nick (Sarah) and Zack (A'Dalle) Schoenherr; great-grandchildren, Levi Berndt, Kenny, Seth, and Gabe Johnston, Dustin, Jase, Drayton, Remington, Destiny, and Emery Schoenherr; brothers, Paul (special friend Colleen Petersen) Parr of Castana, Iowa, and Leroy (Ponce) Petersen of Justin, Texas; sisters, Roberta (Jerry) O’Dell of McCook Lake, South Dakota, and Bonnie Carlson of Ute, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Curtis (Birdie) Norby of Durant, Iowa, Jeff (Lauri) Norby of Sioux City, Iowa, and Charles (Barb) Hinrickson of Castana, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Kaye Mauch of Castana, Iowa, and Gaye (Patch) Smeal of Snyder, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Flossie Parr; step-mother, Louise Parr, sisters, Bernice Link and Barbara Parr at infancy; brother, Larry Parr; granddaughter, Stephanie Parr; mother-in-law, Elaine Amunson; sister-in-law, Peggy Hinrickson; brother-in-law, Whitey Mauch; great-granddaughter, Cailey Berndt; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Carlson and Don Link.
