9 December 2020Darrell Lee Sorenson, 85, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Hospice Chaplain Dale Wolf officiating. (Social distancing measures must be followed-Due to Covid-19 restrictions- Masks are required.) Burial will follow in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Darrell Lee was born July 10, 1935 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Harold and Luea (Hime) Sorenson. He grew up in rural Onawa and graduated from Whiting High School.
He served in the United States Navy from October 23, 1956 until his honorable discharge on September 8, 1960.
Darrell and Janet “Jan” (Langren) Sorenson were united in marriage April 16, 1961 in Whiting, Iowa. She passed away November 16, 1997.
Darrell helped farm with his dad and always kept two tractors around to help when needed. He worked for Peters Construction in Onawa, Iowa as a truck foreman/mechanic. Later in life he worked at Simpson and later called Heisterkamp air craft and retired from there.
He was a pilot and owned his own plane. He loved flying and all different kinds of airplanes. He enjoyed dancing and was on the Drifters Dance Club. Darrell loved to hunt.
Survivors include a special companion, Fern Kirchner of Correctionville, Iowa; his children, Michelle Olberding Masters of Johnston, Iowa, and Michael (Carolyn) Sorenson of Castana, Iowa; grandchildren, Steven (Sabrina Kinney) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Stacia (Dallas) Heath of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Skyler (Tanya) Olberding of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Jameson and Stevie Heath; one brother, Thomas Sorenson of Onawa, Iowa; and one sister, Sharon (Dennis) Colman of Washington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Luea (Hime) Sorenson; wife, Janet “Jan” (Langren) Sorenson; one brother, Dennis Leroy; and granddaughter, Jennifer Abbott.
