Charles Jay Kenney, 68, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Onawa, Iowa.

Per Charlie’s wishes cremation has occurred. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in the spring of 2021. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Charles Jay Kenney was born September 12, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Willard and Edna (Cook) Kenney. He grew up in rural Sloan, Iowa and graduated from Westwood High School in 1970. He attended one year of college in Rapid City, South Dakota and one year of college in Lamar, Colorado.

Charles and Renee (Saunders) Kenney were united in marriage December 1, 1972 in Whiting, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Matthew and Amanda.

He was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years. He loved the Rodeo, from bull riding to calf roping. His horses were a great joy in his life.

Charles was a Gold Card Member of the PRCA, Mid States Rodeo Association, URA Rodeo Association, and IRA Rodeo Association.

Survivors include his wife, Renee Kenney of Onawa, Iowa; his children, Matthew Charles (Delayna) Kenney of Midland, Texas, and Amanda Jo (Allan) Dessel of Paullina, Iowa; grandchildren, Kacyn Cole Kenney, Kelcee Bee Kenney, Gracie Jo Dessel, Stran Michael Dessel, and Trig Allan Dessel; brother, Ray (Dorothy) Kenney of Wisner, Nebraska; nephew, Wade Kenney; Niece, Mariah Kenney; great- niece, Cailyn Kenney; and God-son, Elijah Kenney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Edna Kenney; and sister, Billie Sue Kenney.
