Oliver J. Martin, 82, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. Per his wishes, no public services will be held. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is handling arrangements.

Oliver was born on April 14, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, to William and Ula (Thomas) Martin. He attended Salem High School in Salem, Ohio, where he grew up. On August 7, 1959 he married Judy Gibbs in Warren County, Michigan. To this union, ten children were born.

He joined the Air Force at the age of 17, where he served our country for two and a half years.

Oliver was truly a Jack of all trades, and worked in many facets throughout his life. He entered the world of ministry in 1964, after his father’s passing in 1962, which led the family to move often as he pastored various congregations.

In his free time, Oliver loved to play the guitar and sing for Jesus; and he was always ministering to others. He was very artistic, and was constantly drawing and painting pictures. He even built a miniature town display of Salem, Ohio, where he grew up. He also adored his dog, Taz.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Martin of Mapleton, IA; his children: Daniel Martin (Tela) of Wichita Falls, TX; Donald Martin (Bertha) of Newcastle, TX; Dennis Martin (Maria) of Graham, TX; Darrin Martin (Jill) of Point Pleasant, WV; Denise Ross of Bella Vista, AR; Doris Schoenherr (Kirtus) of Mapleton, IA; Dean Martin (Cassandra) of Fort Worth, TX; Debbie Hudson of Mapleton, IA; David Martin (Sharon) of Newcastle, TX; Terry Martin; and Michael Martin; a sister, Margie Capel (Fred) of Salem, OH; and many grandkids and great-grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dale Martin; and his siblings: Bobby, Billy, Kenneth, Irvin, Evelyn, and Earl.
