Fredrick Joseph “Freddy” Shook passed from this life in Whiting, Iowa on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the age of 76.

A private family memorial graveside service will be held with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Fredrick Joseph “Freddy” Shook was born January 16, 1944, in Onawa, Iowa, the fourth child of Herb and Freda (Mathys) Shook.

Freddy received his schooling at the Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD) and graduated in 1964. After graduation, Freddy furthered his education in Woodbine, Iowa, studying under Mr. Purcell, where he learned how to repair TVs, radios, and small electronics. He studied there for about a year, staying in Woodbine for the week and coming home on weekends. He was well known for his expertise working with radios and TVs. Freddy worked from home, with people bringing TVs, turntables, reel to reels, and CB radios to the house for repair. He made house calls to work on heavy cabinet TVs. He also worked on car / truck electronics, which he sometimes did in his father's shop. He was small and nimble which worked in his favor for his profession. Freddy was employed for a time at the Onawa Airport working for Gene Simpson cleaning aircraft. Later he worked at Crossroads of Western Iowa.

Freddy enjoyed returning to ISD for football games and especially for Homecoming. He had many friends and acquaintances affiliated with ISD with whom he got together annually throughout the years.

Fred was well known in the Onawa community and made many new friends while living at Center Heights and Pleasant View.

Freddy will be remembered by family and friends for his friendly attitude, his willingness to help, his hearty laugh, but especially for his electronic expertise!

Survivors include sisters, Patty Huff, Helen Peterson and Rita Harris; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Herb and Freda; brothers, James, Harold, and Leo; and nephew, Robbie Harris.
