MRS. J. WINEGAR LAID TO REST

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR WELL KNOWN TURIN LADY WAS HELD ON TUESDAY

Was the Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hathaway respected Residents of This Vicinity —Rev. G. D. Serrill of Sioux City and J. E. McNamara of Castana conducted the Services

Funeral, services for Mrs. Genevieve Althea Winegar, the wife of James Winegar of Kennebec township were held at the Christian church in this city at 2 o'clock on last Tuesday afternoon October 9, 1931.

The services were very largely attended, people being present from Castana, Turin, Areola, Kennebec and Sioux City. Rev. G. D. Serrill, pastor of the First Christian church, of Sioux City and J. E. McNamara, of Castana had charge of the services in which both gentlemen spoke merited tributes to the life and character of this worthy woman. Banks of beautiful flowers rested on and around the casket, and the tender comfort of sweet song was offered by a choir from Turin composed of Mrs. Knudsen, Mrs. Chris Peterson and Fred Reese of Turin and Fred Hoffman of Onawa. Interment was made in the Onawa cemetery.

Mrs. Winegar was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hathaway of this city, old and highly respected pioneers of Monona county.

The following obituary was read at the services.

Genevieve Altheo Hathaway was born August 8, 1885 in Kennebec township, Monona County, Iowa.

She attended school in Onawa and was a member of the 1903 graduating class. She was married to Warren Winegar in February 1914. They became the owners of a farm near Areola on which they lived until her husband’s death In November 1918. Together with Mrs. A. M. Elliott she continued to live on the farm about two years when they removed to Turin, where she became operator in the telephone office until the death of Mrs. Elliott in 1928 when she resigned her position at the telephone office.

She was married to James O. Winegar in October 1928 and lived with him on his farm until her death October 3, 1931 at the age of 46 years, 1 month, and 25 days.

She leaves to mourn her death a husband, father and mother, two brothers and three sisters besides a host of other relatives.
