January 27, 1938:David Butcher Died Sunday. Passed Away at a Local Hospital Following a Heart Attack - Had Been in Poor Health. A resident of this community for 65 years - Was known by all the older citizens - Funeral held Monday.
David Butcher, age 86 years, and a well known resident of this vicinity for the past 65 years passed away Sunday at a local hospital following a heart attack which occurred in his home Wednesday.
Born October 12th, (1851) at Princeton, Missouri, Mr. Butcher left there when he was 21 years of age and moved to Onawa. During the earlier years of his life he devoted his time to farming and cattle raising, retiring from that business in 1927 and it was at that time he moved to town. Due to his long residence here he was known by many who today grieve with his family in his passing.
Surviving are three daughters Mrs. Florence Young of Sioux City, Ia; Mrs. Jessie Andrews of Fort Dodge, Ia., and Mrs. Roy Armstrong of Little Sioux, Ia., and three sons, Charles of Sioux City, Ia., Ray of Chicago, Ill., and Oscar of Idaho.
Funeral services were conducted from the Cheney Funeral Home on Monday afternoon and burial was made in the family lot at the Onawa Cemetery.
