This obituary was probably in the Walthill, Nebraska newspaper: Rites held for County's Oldest Resident. Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Riggs, 96, Thurston County's oldest resident, were held at 2 pm Monday at Trinity Lutheran church here with the Rev. J. G. Werner officiating. Mrs. Dale Fuchser and Mrs. Wilbur Fuchser sang "Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me" and "I'm But a Stranger Here", accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Anita Miller. Burial was in the local Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Stuart, Bill McKeegan, Jim Rossiter, Roy Phillips, and Arden and Cleland Stinger. Nellie C. Riggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank O'Connor, was born April 6, 1863, at Onawa, Iowa, and departed this life on February 5, 1960. She was married to George McMullen at Aberdeen, SD, on June 8, 1887. He passed away the following year. Their son, George F., was born two months after his father's death. They made their home with her parents until the year of 1894, when she was married to Lewis W. Riggs on April 23, at Onawa. The family lived there until 1903, when they moved to Walthill. Mr. Riggs passed away in 1935. Mrs. Riggs made her home with her son for many years, and also lived at the Walthill nursing home. In August, 1958, she entered the Oakland, Nebraska nursing home where she remained until Thursday of last week when she was transferred to the Pender hospital where she passed away on Friday. Her son, George F., who was Thurston county clerk for a number of years, preceded her in death on June 26, 1959.
