Onawa Democrat
1 July 2009

Floyd Robert Flint was born January 8,1922, to Lewis Christian Flint and Ane Katrine Elise Martine (Moller) Flint in Moorhead, Iowa. He was raised in Moorhead and graduated from high school in 1939. He worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company as a driver and then attended aircraft training school in Kansas.

He proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps, serving from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific. After WWII, he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. Floyd married Marilyn Lucille (Shearer) Coffman on October 14,1947. He owned and operated the Sinclair Station in Little Sioux for many years, a tank wagon service, and he was the Manager of the Farmer's Cooperative in River Sioux for 23 years.

Floyd was a member of the American Legion and the United Methodist Church of Woodbine. Floyd was a devoted husband and an inspiration to his children in how to conduct an honorable life. Everyone who knew him respected him for his honesty and integrity. Floyd enthusiastically followed and participated in sports; his favorites being baseball; golfing and fishing. His biggest claim to fame came in 1963 when he caught a 56 lb. flathead catfish and kept the Iowa record for several years. It is a testament to his skill and patience as a fisherman that he kept the fish on a ten-pound test line for two hours, walking up and down the shore to tire the fish out until it moved close enough to shore so Floyd's neighbor Bill Ferris could help him land it in a net. In the contest between fish and man, man won.

Floyd died June 19, 2009, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 87 years, five months, and 11 days.

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; three brothers, Ralph, Vail, and Glen, and sister, Florence Petersen. He is survived by his four children, Mariruth (George) Peters of The Woodlands, TX, Robert (Rebecca) Flint of Woodbine, IA, Marcia Flint of Minnetonka, MN, Annette Flint of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Chris (Anna) Peters, Joshua Flint (fiancee Lisa Rohrig), Stefanie Peters, Samantha Peters; great granddaughter, Jessica Peters; sister, Irene Peterson and special friend, Vera Walker both of Onawa, IA; and other relatives and friends.
