SIOUX CITY -- Sylvia I. Harrington Andela, 90, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin W. Roach officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the funeral home.

Sylvia was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Homer, Neb., to William F. and Pearl M. (Howard) Owens. She grew up in the Leeds area and attended Sioux City schools.

She married Robert Harrington in April 1935, in Sioux City. She worked at various places in Sioux City and also cared for seven children. Robert passed away on Sept. 6, 1980, in Sioux City.

She later married Andy Andela on Sept. 6, 1986, in Sioux City. She retired as a manager of an apartment complex, where Andy was the apartment maintenance man.

The couple enjoyed fishing, woodworking together, traveling and word finds. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Andy who resides at the Good Samaritan Center in Canton, S.D.; five children, Roberta Schoepf of South Sioux City, Shirley Grove of Omaha, Douglas Harrington and his wife, Diane of West Point, Neb., Donald Harrington of Ashland, Neb., and Sylvia Lynne and her husband, Chuck Hegdahl of Madison, S.D.; a son-in-law, Danny Laughlin; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Harrington; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 60 great-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Maxine Owens; three sisters, Gerry Harris, Lavina Iverson and Marie Pickens; and two sisters-in-law, Kenna Mae Owens and Eunice Owens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert; three children, Marvin Harrington, Beverly Laughlin and Susan Harrington; a granddaughter, Melissa Belew; two great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four brothers, Alvin, Cecil, Hershel and Wayne.

Pallbearers will be Bob Harrington, Randy Nelson, Deb Grove, Troy Harrington, Marty Harrington, Donnie Laughlin and Sean Hegdahl.
