24 April 2019Loretta J. Collison, 80, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 19, 2019, at the Blencoe United Church of Christ in Blencoe, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Graceland Cemetery near Blencoe, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:45 P.M., on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Loretta Jean was born on June 7, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Emil and Wanda (Atkins) Olson. She grew up on a farm near Castana, Iowa and graduated from Castana High School in 1956.
She was baptized at the Castana Community Church in Castana, Iowa and attended there while growing up and then later attended the Blencoe United Church of Christ in Blencoe, Iowa.She married Douglas Eugene Collison on December 1, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Loretta worked several jobs over the years including being a telephone operator, truck driver, and a loving wife and mother.
She enjoyed embroidery and ceramics, and square dancing with Douglas. She especially loved babysitting her grandkids. For several years, she loved being a trucker buddy to many West Monona School children, by writing letters and driving the truck to the school for the kids to tour.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Douglas Collison of Onawa, IA; her children, Michael Collison of Onawa, IA, William (Leslie) Collison of Beaver, OK, Susan Collison of Onawa, IA, Bradley (Sona) Collison of Searcy, AR, Dennis (Jennifer) Collison of Onawa, IA, Patricia Collison of Onawa, IA, Timothy (Kimberly) Collison of Little Sioux, IA, Cynthia Collison of Onawa, IA, and Christopher (Karla) Collison of Onawa, IA; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Elaine Banks of Mapleton, IA, Dwight Olson of Whiting, IA, Marlene (Lonnie) Campbell of Onawa, IA, and Debra (Larry Swank) Clark of Kellerton, IA; two brothers-in-law, Gary (Kary) Collison of Blencoe, IA, and Bert Jr. (Connie) Collison of Weaver, AL; one sister-in-law, Lucille Collison of Oklahoma City, OK; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Collison; parents, Emil and Wanda (Atkins) Olson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bert and Anna (Wood) Collison; three brothers-in-law, Gene Banks, Duane “Bob” Clark, Richard Collison; sister-in-law, Phyllis Collison; two nieces, Roxanne Campbell and Mary Collison; and one nephew, Matthew Collison.
