Billie Joe “Bill” Wetherell, 77, of Whiting, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Per Bill’s request, his body has been donated to the University of South Dakota. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Craig Bock officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Onawa Community Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Billie Joe was born on April 3, 1941, in rural Newell, IA the son of Ralph and Violet Pearl (Stanton) Wetherell. He attended and graduated from the Storm Lake Community School District in Storm Lake, Iowa. After graduation, Billie served as a M.P. in the United States Army.

He married Connie Weiland on December 31, 1974 in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Bill spent his working career as a truck driver, mechanic, and farmer.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Wetherell of Whiting, IA; son, Jeff Wetherell of Stockport, IA; grandchildren, Daniel Wetherell of Whiting, IA, Jessica (Joe) Howard of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Niccole Wetherell of York, NE; great-grandchildren, Chasity, William, Baby Jay, Camden, Joe, and Janet; mother-in-law, Lola Brock of Storm Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Julie (Ron) Anderson of Aurelia, IA; brother-in-law, Allen (Deb) Weiland of Aurelia, IA; siblings, Dale Wetherell of Alta, IA, Denny (Faye) Wetherell of Woodbridge, VA, Bernice (Harold) Heschke of Carson City, NV, Sharon Hervey of Newton, IA, and Shirley Francis of Havelock, IA; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Violet (Stanton) Wetherell; siblings, Carol, Clifford, Charles, Burton, Paul, Dick, Marge, Phyllis, Darlene, and infant sister, Mary Cathrine; and daughter-in-law, Sherri Wetherell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
