MAPLETON, Iowa -- Violetta G. Wooster, 85, of Mapleton died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, with the Revs. Bob Fritzmeier and Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Violetta Gwendolyn Wooster was born July 25, 1918, in Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Iva (Jones) Gosch. She was raised and educated in the Ute area. She later lived near Mapleton, where she worked at the Home Cafe and for Dr. Ingram.

On Aug. 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to John Wooster in LaVern, Minn. She then remained at home on the farm and placed her focus on caring for her family.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was also active in the Women's Fellowship at the church.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, John; four sons and their wives, Bill and Freeda Schneekloth of Bonita, Calif., John and Margaret Wooster of Napa, Idaho, Vinton and Theresa Wooster of Charter Oak, Iowa, and Ivan and Suzanne Wooster of Grinnell, Iowa; six daughters, Jean Gries of Amboy, Ill., Judy and her husband, Dave Baldwin of Rock Falls, Ill., LaVerna and her husband, Dave Sneed of Dixon, Ill., Rita and her husband, Bill Duncan of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Rilda and her husband, Randy Aunspach of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marcia and her husband, Tony Pegram of Mapleton; 30 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Vernon Gosch; a sister, Alberta Baak; and a son-in-law, Frank Gries.
