Harold "Pee Wee "Heck; Sr., age 80 of Lake Lillian, Minnesota, and formerly of Rodney, died Monday, October 28, 2002, after a lingering illness.
Services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian, Minnesota, with Rev. Art Wiese officiating. Burial was in the Community Cemetery, Lake Lillian, with military rites by Willmar VFW and American Legion. Organist for the service was Rick Nordin.
Harold was born October 9, 1922 at Rodney, Iowa to William and Maggie (Woodard) Heck. He graduated from Smithland, Iowa High School in 1940, where he had lettered in baseball and basketball. He then drove a gravel truck until August 2, 1943 when he entered the U.S. Army. Harold served in European Theatre Operations in France and Germany as a member of the 142nd AAA Gun Battalion and was discharged on February 3, 1946. He then worked in construction in Grant Center, Iowa. Harold had married Lettie McCann in 1943 and they were later divorced. Harold married Betty LaBelle in Kansas in 1956 and in 1965 they settled in Lake Lillian area. Here he was a heavy equipment operator and' his wife preceded him in death in 1987. Harold has shared his home with his special friend Patricia McLaughlin these past 14 years.
He was a life member of the Willmar VFW and American Legion. His interests included flying, caring for his yard and since he was an avid reader he never stopped learning. Harold loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he looked forward to his telephone conversations with his brother, Orville.
Harold is survived by his special friend, Patricia McLaughlin, his eight children, Alan (and Helen) Heck of Lake Lillian, Charles (and Paula) Kohls of West Salem, Wisconsin, Barbara (and Jack) Russell of LaMirada, California, Karen (and Jim) Neumann of Williard, Missouri, Anita (and James) Smith of Hector, Perry Heck (and Karen Henry) of Olivia, Harold Heck, Jr. (and Claudia) of Stewart and Thomas (and Connie) Heck of Keliher, his "special daughters" Linda Kohls and Mary Heck; his 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his brother Orville (and Pearl) Heck of Princeton, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Virginia Heck of Danube and many other relatives.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, his two brothers, Lee Heck and Roy Heck; two sisters in infancy and two grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, LaMar Neumann and Branson Heck and all his granddaughters.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Barton Heck, Marco Heck, Tracy Kohls, Jeremy Kohls, Darrell Russell and Dalton Joseph Savoy III.
