SLOAN, Iowa -- Helen Louise Snethen, 89, of Sloan died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. with Dr. Emery Killian officiating at Wood Funeral Home in Sloan. There will be no other services.

Helen was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Graham, Mo., the daughter of Everett and Gladys (Patterson) Wright. She graduated from Sloan High School in 1935, where she was the valedictorian.

On Oct. 9, 1938, she married Andrew E. Snethen on Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had lived in California and Vermont before returning to Sloan in 1982. She was a secretary at a college in Long Beach, Calif., when they lived there. Mr. Snethen died July 23, 2001, in Whiting, Iowa. She had been a resident of Pleasant View Care Center for 10 years.

She was a member of the former First Christian Church in Sloan. She like to read and she helped at the Senior Center.

Survivors include five children, Eric and his wife, Amber of Searchlight, Nev., David of Santa Ana, Calif., Kathy and her husband, Edward O'Toole of Storm Lake, Iowa, Nancy Snethen of Sloan and Kent and his wife, Michelle of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Parsley of Hemet, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; and a brother, Eldon Wright.
