ONAWA, Iowa -- Myrtle May Hightree Underwood, 91, of Onawa died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa. She was a former resident of the Decatur and Pender, Neb.. communities.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Decatur. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery at Pender, Neb. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is assisting with the arrangements.

Myrtle was born Dec. 26, 1912, near Homer, Neb., the daughter of Ollie and Minnie Belle (Lamer) Hale. She attended the Homer rural schools.

She was married to Robert Hightree for 30 years before his death in 1970. She then married Gilbert Underwood in Omaha on Sept. 11, 1971. They had 30 years together before his death in 2002. Myrtle worked in the housekeeping department at the Pender Hospital for many years. She had been a resident at the Elmwood Care Center in Onawa for the past four years.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Hedy and her husband, Jerry Ahlvers of Omaha; three grandchildren, Raquel Lea and her husband, Shea Bourke, Jamie Lea Ahlvers and Chad Michael Ahlvers of Omaha. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Robert Hightree in 1970 and Gilbert Underwood in 2002; a brother; and a sister.
