SLOAN, Iowa -- Steve Miller, 53, of Sloan died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital, after a courageous, three and a half year battle with cancer. He has gone to be with his Lord.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community Church of Christ at Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Steve was born Sept. 18, 1950, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Norman and Gwendolyn (Petlon) Miller. He graduated from East Monona High School in 1969 and later received his bachelor of arts degree at Wayne State College.

He married Cheryl Denney in 1972. He taught school for four years in Elgin, Neb., and in 1977, joined his brother, Dennis with Miller & Miller Insurance in Sioux City.

He was a member, and also served as an elder, at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan.

Survivors include two sons, Chad and his wife, Bobbi Jo Miller of Houston, Texas and Matt Miller of Sloan; his mother, Gwendolyn Miller of Sloan; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Karen Miller of Sioux City; a nephew, Tom Miller of Sioux City; a niece and her husband, Juli and Brian Elmer and their daughter, Peyton of Clive, Iowa; a special dog, Sammy; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.
