7 October 2002Florence L. Arp, 86, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Harvest Westside Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Penner of Glendale Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Township Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Florence was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Thunder Hawk, S.D., the daughter of John Elmer and Jessie L. (Brown) Gries. She had lived in Sioux City since about 1952.
She was a member of Glendale Baptist Church. She attended the Siouxland Senior Center and enjoyed flowers, poetry and writing.
Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Fernandez of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Karen Wittern and her husband, Jeffery Swearingen of Sioux City; a brother, Melvin Gries of Boone, Iowa; a sister, Evelyn Golden of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Laura Gries of Mapleton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Howard B. Chase; six brothers; four sisters; a grandson; and two great-grandsons.
