WHITING, Iowa -- Archie Mitchel Stubblefield, 88, of Whiting died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery near Whiting. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Archie was born Aug. 8, 1914 at Dedrick, Mo., the son of William Victor and Mabel (Rodman) Stubblefield. He moved to Whiting as a young child.

He married Elsie Merritt on June 15, 1938 at Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed at Whiting from 1945 to 1981. Mrs. Stubblefield died January 16, 1986 at Whiting.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Betty and Edward Steinfield of Westford, Mass., Bonnie and Hugh Ahmann of Montgomery, Ala. and Rose Mary and Dan Mather of Yankton, S.D.; six grandchildren, four great-grandsons; two half-sisters and their husbands, Kate and Frank Ulrich of Mallard, Iowa and Joann and Gordon Gjere of St. Paul, Minn; and a half-brother and his wife, William and Janis McGrauth of Emmetsburg, Iowa.
