ONAWA, Iowa -- Pauline "Polly" Stueland, 92, of Onawa died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Todd Owen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery.

Emma Pauline was born Sept. 1, 1916, on a farm in Monona County, Iowa, the daughter of Ingersoll and Emma Isabel (Foster) Riddle. She lived at various places in Monona County before attending school in Onawa. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1934 with a teaching certificate.

She and George Ralph "Stuely" Stueland were united in marriage on April 6, 1941, at First Christian Church in Onawa. Except for the years during World War II that Stuely served his country, the couple made their home and raised their two children in Onawa. In 1947, the family owned and operated Stueland's Red and White Grocery until its closing in 1974. Stuely died July 24, 1977. She continued working at Onawa Medicine Chest for many years.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, Circle 3 of the Women's Council and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a big supporter of the Monona County Fair and each year entered exhibits in many different categories. She was very proud of the many ribbons in her collection and continued with her yearly exhibits until the fair of 2008.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Maria and Dwayne Johnson of Norfolk, Neb.; a son and his wife, Michael and Terri (Streeter) Stueland of Bronson, Iowa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ogle of Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and five siblings.
