Melvin F. Smith, 75, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Moorhead, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at his residence.

Graveside memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 18, 2019, in Spring Valley Cemetery near Moorhead, with Evangelist Dale Wolf officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Melvin was born on July 7, 1943, in East Waterloo, Iowa, to Harold W. and Neva M. (Santner) Smith. He graduated from high school in Waterloo.

Melvin married Sherry Mae Laughlin on September 12, 1998, in Sioux City, Iowa.

He worked as a railroad track repairman for the Chicago Central Rail Road and the Canadian National Rail Road.

Melvin enjoyed fishing and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Smith of Onawa, IA; two sons, Daniel Smith of Moorhead, IA and Kevin Smith of Washington; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, David Smith of Callao, MO, Roy Gene Smith of Ohio, and Wally Amedei Jr. of Bevier, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Smith; his mother and stepfather, Neva and Buck Amedei; and one daughter, Cheryl.
