Funeral Services Are Held Wednesday in Lutheran Church in Mapleton

Funeral services for Mrs. Albert Martin, Sr., 82-year-old resident of Mapleton who passed away early Monday morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Martin, following a lingering illness, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in St. Matthew’s Lutheran church.

Rev. August Rueber, pastor of the church, officiated.
Interment was in the St. Clair cemetery at Ute under the direction of the Byers Funeral home of Mapleton.
Harold Martin, Donald Martin and Edgar Martin of Mapleton and Martin Jessen, jr., of Ute, all grandsons, Harold Godbersen of Mapleton and Wilis Martin of Denison served as pallbearers.

Katherine Godbersen was born July 13, 1856, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. She grew to womanhood in that country and was married to Carl Frederick Jessen. Later they came to America and established a home, residing many years on farm in this community. Mr. Jessen preceded her in death and she was married a second time to Albert Martin, sr., of Mapleton May 12, 1924. They made their home in Mapleton since that time.

She was a member of the Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid society. She had been in failing health during the last year and had been bedfast the last four months.

She is survived by her husband and seven children, Martin Jessen of Ames, Chris Jessen, Paul Jessen and Cornelius Jessen of Ute, Henry Jessen of Danbury, Miss Theresa Jessen of Ute and Mrs. Martin of Mapleton. Fifteen grandchildren and one brother, Henry Godbersen of Mapleton, also survives.
