George L. Hunter, 92, of Albaton, Iowa died Friday, December 7, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, Iowa with Pastor Richard Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Albaton with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 of Sloan. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

George Leonard Hunter was born June 8, 1926 the son of Reuben and Edith (Gerking) Hunter at the family farm house in rural Albaton, where he also passed away. He graduated from Sloan High School in 1945. He served with the United States Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953.

George was united in marriage to Jean D. Collison on March 4, 1954 at the Albaton Wesleyan Church in Albaton. Three children were born to this union, Terry, Valerie, and Tom.

George was a lifelong farmer in the Albaton area, where he farmed the land and raised hogs. George had a great love for farming and his family. He enjoyed working on puzzles, and his time spent as an assistant Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Albaton Wesleyan Church until its closing, and then attended the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan.

He was a trustee for the Fairview Township, a member of the Farmers Coop Elevator Board, and the Monona County Farm Bureau, where he served as treasurer, vice-president, president, and voting delegate.

Survivors include his children, Terry Hunter of Albaton, Iowa, Valerie (Allan) Wall of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Tom (Jackie) Hunter of Sloan, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Matthew Wall, Jeremy (Dacia) Wall, Rachelle (Wes) Sturges, Nathan (Jordan) Wall, Ashlee (Barry) Worrell, Jessica (CJ) Hunter, and Amy (Bryan) Kerns; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, David Hunter of California and Lowell (Joyce) Hunter of Virginia; brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Collison of Albaton, Iowa, Charley (Rachel) Collison of Oxnard, California, and Everett Hackett of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Bill) Krunweide of Sioux City, Iowa and Tootie Collison of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Collison) Hunter, his parents, Reuben and Edith (Gerking) Hunter; parents-in-law, Charles and Louise Collison; brothers, Lawrence Hunter, Donald (Jo) Hunter, Kendall (Mabel) Hunter, Gene (Virginia) Hunter, and Roger (Mary Ann) Hunter; one sister, Virginia Hackett; brother-in-law, Lyle Collison; sister-in-law, Elaine (Neil) Koeppen; and other close relatives.
