OBITUARY

Elizabeth Rohde, daughter of Henry and Anna Ragis, was born April 29, 1868 in Germany and died May 30, 1961, at the Onawa hospital following a long illness. She had reached the age of 93 years, one month and 10 days.

She was the eldest child in a family of three daughters. At the age of two she came with her parents to the United States where they settled in Clinton county, Iowa. She resided in Clinton county until marriage, at which time she and her husband came to the Mapleton vicinity. They farmed near Mapleton until 1921 at which time they moved into the town of Mapleton. She was a resident of Mapleton for the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Rohde was married to Peter H. Rohde on January 16, 1886 at Lyons, Iowa. On daughter and eight sons were born to this union. Mr. Rohde preceded her in death in December 1924.

She was baptized during her infancy in Germany, was confirmed during her youth in Clinton county, Iowa. Since coming to the Mapleton community she had been a longtime and faithful member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Aid and had been made an honorary member since her confinement.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Marten of Mapleton; four sons, Herman and Adolph of Mapleton; John of Castana; and Arnold of Sioux City; one sister, Mrs. Dora Noethlich of Ute; thirteen grandchildren, and 38 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, four sons, and one sister.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 2 at St. Matthew's Lutheran church with Rev. E. E. Greene officiating. Pallbearers were: Alvin Ketelson, Louis Docken, Gary Rohde, Claus Rohde, Kenneth Daniels and Edgar Rossow. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery under the direction of the Walter funeral home.
