Mabel G. Walker, 90, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant, officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Rush Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Mabel Gertrude was born on November 10, 1927, in Blencoe, Iowa, to Calvin and Mae (Duffy) Burger. She grew up in Blencoe, Iowa where she attended elementary and junior high school. After her father’s death in 1940, the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa where she attended Central High School and graduated in 1945. She furthered her education at St. Vincent School of Nursing in Sioux City. She attained her RN degree and nursing was her life’s passion. Mabel was the Monona County Public Health Nurse for many years.

She married Isaac Gordon “Doe” Walker on August 20, 1949, in Blencoe, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union, Theresa, Kathleen, John, Joe, Jerry, Bob, and Anita.

Mabel loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and socializing with her friends and family.

She was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Isaac Gordon “Doe” Walker of Onawa, IA; children, Theresa (Steve) Olson of Mounds View, MN, Kathleen Bitner of Gibson City, IL, John (Linda) Walker of Tucson, AZ, Jerry (Linda) Walker of Onawa, IA, Bob (Becky) Walker of Castana, IA, and Anita (Terry) Madsen of Onawa, IA; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Shaw of Lincoln, NE; two sisters-in-law, Mary Stanislav of Onawa, IA and Vera Walker of Onawa, IA; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Mae (Duffy) Burger; son, Joe Walker; infant granddaughter, Sarah Mae Walker; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Walker; and brothers-in-law, Richard Shaw, Milo Stanislav, and Glen Walker.
