Shana R. Emge, 82, of Whiting, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Shana was born in Salix, to Wilbur Russell and Vivian Corrine (Terrell) Emge, on July 3, 1936. She attended Salix Public School and graduated with honors in 1954. During her high school years, she excelled in basketball and her education. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix and joined the Servite Sisters Convent in 1954 and remained until 1973.

Shana graduated from Duchesne College of the Sacred Heart and began following her dream of teaching children. She taught in District 66 of the Omaha Public School System for 40 years until retirement.

Shana belonged to the Nebraska Teachers Association. She was an avid bird watcher and loved nature. She loved to read and was especially proud of her poetry, some of which had been published. She loved her time at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, and leaves many of her friends with memories including her daily inspirational readings.

Most of all, Shana had a great love of teaching. She touched many lives and her students have looked back at their years as a time of growth, love, appreciation, and respect. Her dedication to education is an inspiration to all who met her.

Shana leaves precious memories to all who knew her. Thank you, Shana Rose.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Julie Emge of South Sioux City; cousin, Donna (Bill) Danker of Sioux City; niece, Twila (John) Gavin of Texas; nephews, Marty (Robbie) Emge of Colorado, Jeff (Teresa) Emge of Pierson, Iowa, Doug (Stacy) Emge of Albertville, Ala., and Shawn (Laurie) Emge of Sioux City; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and numerous special and lasting friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Vivian Emge; infant brother, Robert Dean Emge; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Richard Emge and John (Betty) Emge.
