24 October 2018Dora Mae Miller, 88, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
A funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2018, with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 P.M. at the Rush Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Dora Mae was born August 11, 1930 in Burbank, South Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Eveline (Ouellette) Girard. She married Ralph J. Miller on June 21, 1950 in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Dora was a stay at home mom, raising nine children whom she loved and cherished. Early family activities included picnics and camping. In later years, Dora enjoyed going to the casino with her husband and family.
In Dora’s younger years the couple enjoyed dancing and playing cards. She also enjoyed attending her children’s school activities and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. She took great pride in preparing huge dinners and decorating for the holidays. She was so proud to see her family together. She loved collecting Danish Plates and Barbie Dolls.
She was so proud to be the cashier working for her son at the Onawa Café for thirty-five years.
Dora was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society in Onawa, Iowa.
Survivors include her children: David (Valorie) Miller of Golden, CO, Carol (Bill) Thompson of Johnston, IA, Dwight (Mari) Miller of Onawa, IA, Douglas (Cindy) Miller of Sioux City, IA, Duane (Teresa) Miller of Jacksonville, NC, Catherine (John) Webster of Whiting, IA, Darl (Elaine) Miller of Onawa, IA, and Daniel (Wendy) Miller of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jacqueline Miller, Joey Miller, Jeannie Miller, Dr. Jonathan (Dr. Ramona) Thompson and children Joslyn and Annalyse Thompson, Justin (Alysa Mozak) Thompson, Nick (Mindy) Holverson and children Keegan, Kinnick, and Kyler Holverson, Kira (Dr. Brandon) Jensen and children Carsten and Ainsley Jensen, Eric (Trina) Miller and children Madison and Caden Miller, Curtis (Sara) Miller, Amanda Miller, Amber (Chris) Cowles and children Caden and McKinley Cowles, MSgt. Daniel Trudeau, GySgt. Jensen (Patricia) Miller and children Abraham, Michael, and Adrianna Miller, Catherine (Christopher) Bainbridge and children Lauren and Juliet Bainbridge, Christina Barker and children Tanner and Reese Barker, Adam Miller, Capt. Ashton Miller, and Caitlyn and Cael Miller; sister-in-law, Marlys Miller of Vermillion, SD and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Eveline (Ouellette) Girard; her husband, Ralph J. Miller; daughter and son-in-law, Carla (Roger) Reiling; brothers, Alphonse (Stella) Girard, Francis (Evelyn) Girard, Roland (Ruth) Girard, Elmer Girard; sisters, Alphonsine (Clarence) Kutil and Laura (Wayne) Brunick; and several other family members and beloved pets.
