Former Ute Lady Was Buried Here Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. L.P. Bahnsen, 49-year-old resident of Walthill, Nebraska and sister of Mrs. Roy Baker of Ute, who passed away Thursday afternoon of last week in her home following a lingering illness, were held Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock in the Racely Funeral home in Walthill.

Ed Riley, William Waltermire, Carol Butts, William Gesch, Lee Beckner and Fred Edgington of Walthill, served as pallbearers there.

Additional funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the Christian Church here. Rev. B.A. Gann, pastor of the Christian church in Onawa and a former Ute pastor, officiated.

Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery under the direction of the Racely Funeral home.

A ladies’ quartette sang “In The Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Going Down The Valley One By One.” They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. William Henry.

Clem Babbe, Ralph Henry and Lee Henry of Mapleton, Thomas Clinton, Charles Bramson and David Kee of Ute, served as pallbearers.

Goldah Lauvertia Gay Chamberlain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I.N. Chamberlain, was born March 29, 1890 at Guthrie Center, Iowa. She came with her parents to Monona County in the year of 1892. The family house was established west of Ute where she grew to womanhood.

She was married January 30, 1913 to L. P. Bahnsen. They established their home in Charter Oak. They also had resided in Kenwood, Shenandoah and Ralston, Iowa. They moved to Walthill about three years ago.

Mrs. Bahnsen had been in failing health several months. No expense was spared in the fight for her life, for she did so hope to live long enough to see her only daughter, Inga, graduate from the Walthill High School, Tuesday, May 16.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Delbert and Bernard, and one daughter, Inga all of Walthill; three brothers, Tony Chamberlain and Arthur L. Chamberlain of Mapleton and Grant W. Chamberlain of Mason City, two sisters, Mrs. Roy Baker of Ute, and Mrs. F.A. Bright of Mapleton, two grandchildren, Delene and Del Ray Bahnsen of Walthill.

Her parents and one sister, Alta, preceded her in death.
