Funeral services for N.J. Ullrich, 83-years-old resident of Mapleton and a brother of E.B. “Bert” Ullrich, who was buried here Saturday, were held Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock in St. Mary’s Church.

Mr. Ullrich passed away at his home on South Fourth Street Sunday morning of complications.

Rev. A.H. Ocken, pastor of the church, officiated and interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Olerich Funeral Home.

Six grandsons, John Ullrich of Rockwell City, Iowa and Cyril Brenner, Norbert Brenner, Leo Brenner, Harold Brenner and Myron Brenner of Mapleton served as pallbearers.

Nicholas Joseph Ullrich, son of John and Gertrude Ullrich, was born May 11, 1856, at Lyons, Iowa, in Clinton County. He moved to Charter Oak in 1875 where he resided until 1881.

Mr. Ullrich was married November 20, 1881 in Denison, Iowa to Miss Sarah E. Sciford. They started housekeeping in Denison. Later they lived at Charter Oak and Ute before moving to Mapleton in 1900.

Mr. Ullrich operated a grocery store here for many years, retiring a few years ago when his health began to fail. He had been an invalid five years.

He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Modern Woodman lodge. He was an honest, upright citizen and well liked by all who knew him.

Mr. Ullrich is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. John E. Brenner and Mrs. Joseph F. Brenner of Mapleton, Mrs. Ann L. Young of Omaha, Nebraska and Miss Rose E. Ullrich of Sioux City.

He also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ernst Topf, of Le Mars, 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
