Respected Resident Here Past 42 Years

Beloved Ute Wife and Mother Laid To Final Rest Here Tuesday

Mary Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jens Anderson, was born June 11, 1859, at Jestmark, Denmark, and passed away at her home Saturday, February 19, 1938 at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 8 days.

She was united to Chris P. Aaby, February 11, 1880, at Blockhus, Denmark.

They came to America in 1880 and settled near Walnut, Iowa, where they lived for 16 years. In 1895 they moved to a farm near Ute, residing there for thirty-four years. For the past eight years they lived at their home in Ute.

Mrs. Aaby was a member of the Cuppy’s Grove Baptist Church of Walnut, Iowa, but during her residence here had attended the Christian Church.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, February 22, at the Christian Church, Rev. B. A. Gann of Waukegan, Illinois, a former pastor of the Ute Christian Church, conducting the services. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute.

One of the songs sang at the service was “God Will Take Care Of You.” This song was dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Aaby for their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary on February 11 by the Rev. Brown from an Omaha radio station.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Aaby; preceding her in death, one son dying in infancy; one daughter, Carrie; two sons, Lewis and Emri, gave their lives in service during the World War.

Surviving are the husband; three sons, Peter, John and Alfred, all of Ute; one daughter, Mrs. Leonard Stephenson, six grandchildren, Mrs. Goldie Meadows, Pauline and Loydeen Aaby, Leonard, Wayne and Marial Stephenson; also a host of other relatives and friends.

Out of town relatives and friends who came for the funeral services were; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Manger and daughter of Kennebec, South Dakota; Mrs. Harry Croissant of Madison, South Dakota; John Kjer of Allen, Nebraska; Mrs. Fritz Mansing of Council Bluffs; Herman Nelson of Cromwell, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nelson and son, Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. S.T. Mark and family, Mrs. Jim Alwill, Mrs. M.L. Christensen, Mrs. Minnie Kjer, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Thompson and Ralph Thompson, all of Harlan; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Mortenson and family of Kimbalton; Lars Larson and Roy Jensen of Sioux City; George Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gregerson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Larson, Mrs. Tom Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Hans Albertson, all of Mapleton.
