Dies While At Telephone At Home Of His Son
A.O. Gray, Well Known Pioneer of Monona County, Expires Very Suddenly

Blencoe, Iowa, April 8—Special: A.O. Gray, aged 65, a well known pioneer resident of this section, dropped dead today while talking over the telephone at the farm house of his son, six miles east of Blencoe.

Mr. Gray came to Monona County in 1871 from Canada. He taught school for several years and then engaged in the lumber and hardware business at Blencoe. He retired from business six years ago.

The survivors are his wife and two sons, Laurence and N.C. Gray. The latter is well know as a newspaper man in Sioux City and Des Moines.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.

A.O. Gray, Blencoe Pioneer Drops Dead

Funeral Services Will Be Held Sunday Afternoon –Came To Iowa from Canada in 1871

Blencoe, Iowa, April 8 – Special: Funeral services for A.O. Gray, who dropped dead today, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Mr. Gray was out in the country this morning with his son, Lawrence. Their auto had got stuck in a mud hole and Mr. Gray went to secure help. He entered the home of Rasmus Knudson, and had finished telephoning for aid when he toppled over dead.

Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, who has been an invalid for three years; a son, Neville, at one time employee on the Sioux City Journal and another son, Lawrence. He came here in 1871 from Canada. For several years he taught school and raised cattle. He bought considerable land with his partner, Samuel Cunningham. They disposed of their land interest last summer. For thirty-one years Mr. Gray operated a hardware store here. He disposed of it six years ago, and since that time has devoted his time to looking after his land interest and insurance business.
