Smithland, Iowa—Ruth M. Hagerdon, 79, of Smithland died Friday, January 24, 1997 at Elmwood Care Centre at Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church at Smithland, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, rural Smithland. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Willman Funeral Home of Rodney, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hagerdon was born May 29, 1917, near Soldier, Iowa to Oscar M. and Virgil Anna (Ball) Larson. She married Jesse Hagerdon on June 10, 1935, at Sioux City. He died October 11, 1992, at Mapleton, Iowa.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Smithland, the United Methodist Women and the Women’s Auxiliary Unit of the Leslie F. Seaton American Legion Post 666 at Smithland.

Survivors include three sons, Richard A of Sierra Vista, Ariz, Bill of Mapleton and Ronald of Denver, Colo., two daughters, Norma J McNamara of Mapleton and Janet L Parsley of Hornick, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Burnetta Melby of Soldier, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a sister, Lavina Price; a brother, LeRoyce Larson.
