William Rounds, Pioneer Dead
Aged Pioneer Of This City Passed Away At His Home June 24
Has Resided in This Community Nearly His Entire Lifetime—Leaves Widow And Several Children to Mourn His Death – Funeral Held Friday

William Rounds well known and liked pioneer, who had spent most of the 81 years that he lived in Monona County passed away at his home in North west Onawa on June 24, 1931. For the past number of years, Mr. rounds and his good wife who survive him has lived a retired life, he had built in years past a comfortable home in which to reside and spend his reclining days.

He was a man of quiet personality, but he also possessed that determined spirit so manifested in our early pioneers, that spirit of courage and determination up until the last year. Mr. Rounds was able to be around at odd jobs about the home and he enjoyed doing them.

William Rounds was born in Clayton County, Iowa on September 24th, 1849 and passed away at his home in North- West Onawa on June 24, 1931 at the ripe old age of 81 years and 9 months. He moved with his folks to Monona County when a small boy and had lived here practically his entire life.

On October 8, 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Kennedy also a resident of this county.

This union was a most happy one and to them were born 8 children, six sons and two daughters.

One daughter Mae having preceded her father in death on March 23, 1917 being at the age of her death 37 years of age. Besides his good wife who has shared his joys and hardships for nearly 61 years there remains 6 sons and one daughter, Theodora J of Leavenworth, Kansas, William E. of Hawarden, Iowa, Mark H. of LeMars, Iowa, Jessie G. of Sioux City, Iowa, Ira G. of Seminole, Oklahoma, Fred of Onawa and Belle of Omaha, Nebraska, besides there are 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one brother and 1 sister.

Mr. Rounds was received into membership of the Methodist Church on October 3rd, 1915 the Rev. Mr. Spahr being the Minister at the time.

Five sons and one son-in-law carried the remains of their aged father to his last resting place.

Funeral services were held from the home at three thirty o’clock, June 26, 1931. Rev. Thos Batho was the officiating minister. Music was furnished by William Rowles and Mrs. T.L. Gossard. The Barnard Funeral Home had charge of the funeral and interment was made in the Onawa Cemetery.
