Mrs. Christina Engelke Funeral Held Tuesday

Died at Age of 75—Had Resided In Ute Community Past 43 Years.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon, August 10, 1937. For Mrs. Christina Engelke, a resident of this community for the past forty-three years, who passed away at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, August 8th, heart trouble being the cause of her death. Rev. Widmann delivered the funeral sermon in both the German and English languages. Interment was at St. Clair Cemetery here.

Christina Plagge was born in Hanover, Germany, August 5, 1862, and reached the age of 75 years and 3 days. She came to America in 1883 and on June 27, 1886, was united in marriage to Wilhelm Engelke. The first eight years of their married life they lived near Charter Oak, moving to Ute in 1894. At the time of death, she was living on the farm northwest of Ute.

Her husband and son, Henry, preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters and four sons; Mrs. Olga Sievers of Mapleton; William Engelke of Castana; Andrew E. Engelke, George Engelke and Mrs. Alvena Bartels, all of Ute; Mrs. Ella Wendt of Mapleton and Marvin, still at home. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Goslar of Ute; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Plagge of Charter Oak; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
