Ruby Evelyn Olander Smith 1908 – 1937

Mrs. Kenneth Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, was buried here at St. Clair Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Smith will be better remembered as Ruby Olander, being the daughter of John Olander, agent for the Northwestern railroad when the family resided in Ute.

Ruby Evelyn Olander was born at California Junction, Iowa, on December 24th, 1908. She was the youngest daughter of John and Amanda Olander, her mother having preceded her in death on June 9, 1919.

Ruby graduated from the Whiting High School at Whiting, Iowa, with the class of 1927. On June 30th, 1929 she was united in marriage to Oren Kenneth Smith, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Smith of Mapleton, Iowa.

She leaves to mourn her untimely death, her kind and loving husband; an infant daughter, Sandra Jane; her father, John P. Olander of Sloan, Iowa and three sisters, Mabel, Mrs. Irvin Atwood, Ogden, Iowa; Mrs. Florence Olson of Des Moines, Iowa and Clara, Mrs. Harry Newberg of Des Moines, besides other near relatives and a host of friends. All that kind and loving hands could do was done but she departed this life on Monday, July 19th at 6:45 p.m. at Des Moines.
