Walter T. Willson Sr., 1919 – 2003

Walter T. Willson, Sr. passed away on May 24, 2003, in Sioux City at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 24 days.

The funeral services was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Connie Bridgeman, organist, provided the message in music.

Pallbearers Charles McCall, Walter Morgan, Henry McCall, Merrill Zobel, Travis Vogt and Mark Vogt.

Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery near Mapleton.

Walter Thomas Willson, Sr. was born November 30, 1919 at Mapleton, the son of John E. and Eveline (Switser Jacques) Willson. In 1928, the family lived on a farm near Castana, Iowa, where they remained for several years. On September 27, 1941, Walter was united in marriage to Margie Cooke at Ponca, Nebraska. They lived in the Ida Grove, Climbing Hill and Holstein area where Walter worked for various farmers, retiring in the 1980’s.

He enjoyed the time he could find gardening and caring for his flowers. He also developed a talent for constructing small decorations for the home.

Survivors left to cherish Walter’s memory include Margie, his wife of 61 years; four sons and their wives, Tom and Tootie Willson of Danbury, Raymond and Norma Willson of Denison, Richard and Pat Willson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mike and Sharon Willson of Holstein; one daughter, Janice Zobel of Holstein; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ruth Palmer of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Esther Ham of Papillion, Nebraska along with other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Shaun and Scotty, two sisters, Myrtle and Mildred and one brother, Frank.
