Joseph J. Siekaniec, 73, of Moorhead, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Mahnomen Health Center in Mahnomen, Minn.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moorhead, Minn. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead. Condolences may be sent on-line to www.korsmofuneralservice.com.

Joseph James Siekaniec, the son of Walter and Antoinette (Krajewski) Siekaniec, was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Sioux City. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Trinity High School in 1949. He worked with his father and brother, Ed, at the family's restaurant, The Johnson Cafe, in Sioux City.

He was united in marriage to Doris Charlene Ellis on June 16, 1951, in Sioux City, where the couple made their home.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict from 1951 until his discharge in 1953. He returned to Sioux City and resumed work at the Johnson Cafe until 1956. He then worked for Siouxland Packing Plant as a meat cutter. He was transferred to the West Fargo, N.D. Siouxland Packing Plant in 1960 and worked there until 1978. He then worked for Moorhead Hornbacher's Meat Department, retiring in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene of Moorhead; a daughter, Diane Siekaniec of Fargo, N.D.; three sons, Dave of Bloomington, Minn., Greg (Janelle) of Homer, Alaska, and Thomas (Sandra) of Cold Bay, Alaska; two grandchildren, Casey and Claire, both of Homer, Alaska; a brother, the Rev. Ladislas Siekaniec of St. Louis, Mo.; and five sisters, Mary (Bernie) Patzeold of Plano, Ill., Elizabeth Siekaniec of Chicago, Ill., Martha Albright of Sioux City, Carmelita (Jim) Lennon of St. Paul, Minn., and Jean White of Deltona, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
