MAPLETON, Iowa -- Ina Phoebe Baker Smith, 91, of Mapleton died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Ina Phoebe Martindale was born May 2, 1913, in Center Township, Monona County, Iowa, the daughter of Wesley and Sarah (Goodall) Martindale.

She married Arthur Baker on Aug. 2, 1931, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple lived in Mapleton until March 1944, at which time they started farming in the Castana, Iowa, and Mapleton area until Arthur's death on Oct. 4, 1969. Ina Phoebe moved into Mapleton in February 1970.

On May 15, 1975, she married Orville Smith of Sioux City, where they resided. Orville passed away Dec. 16, 1981. Ina Phoebe moved back to Mapleton in August 1982, where she lived the remainder of her life.

She was a part-time clerk at Kettler Hardware for a number of years.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, the U.M.W. and Circle.

Survivors include two stepdaughters and their husbands, Carmen and Jim Moody of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Janice and Duane Goff of Norfolk, Neb.; two stepsons and their wives, Howard and Verna Smith of Lawton, Iowa, and Ronald and Anne Smith of Sioux City; eight stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-stepgrandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and a step-grandson, David Goff.
