UTE, Iowa -- Donald Nathan Carlson, 60, of Ute died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ute Christian Church in Ute. Burial will be in Dow City (Iowa) Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa.

Donald Nathan Carlson was born March 18, 1944, the son of Nathan and Ella Mae (Wright) Carlson. He lived with his parents on a farm near Dow City. He received his education in Washington Township, Paradise Township and Dow City High School.

After completing his education, he worked on a pipeline in Beatrice, Neb., for about a year, then returned to the family farm near Dow City to farm with his father. In 1978, Don purchased a farm near Soldier, Iowa, and along with farming, he worked at the Dunlap and Mapleton, Iowa, sale barns. He retired from farming in the early 1980s.

He was a member of Ute Christian Church where he was baptized. He was a past member of the Congregational Church in Arion, Iowa. He was a member of the Ute Fire and Ambulance Department for 19 years.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, including a trip to the Black Hills last month with his sisters and fishing with his brother, Dennis, in South Dakota. He also loved hunting, woodworking, making woodcraft and flower gardening.

Survivors include two sisters, Beverly Hulsebus of Denison, Iowa, and Betty Johnson and her husband, Merle, of Hospers, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Cathie Carlson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Jerry Hulsebus; and a great-niece, Hannah Carlson.
